Auto theft : a real problem according to 74% of Quebekers

More than 74 % of Quebekers think that automobile theft is a real problem. These results are from a SOM Survey, commissioned by Boomerang Tracking. However, the results show that 58% of the Quebekers are not worried about their own vehicle being stolen.

The survey also shows that Quebekers have various perceptions of the consequences of automobile theft. About 48% of the respondents identify auto theft as being the worst cause of increase in insurance premiums compared to 17% who worry about their personal belongings being stolen.Furthermore, for 37% of Quebekers, the best protection against auto theft is to lock their vehicle doors, followed by 18% in the installation of a burglar alarm system.

Other retained means are the use of an anti-starter (12%), to park their vehicles in a safe place (2%) and to use an automatic tracking system. Boomerang tracking adds that one hundred vehicles are stolen every day in Québec half of them in Montréal.Boomerang found a recreational vehicle of $515 000 value last week in a barn located in Shawinigan-Sud. It had been stolen from Mirabel on October 15th. Equipped with Espion tracking system, it was tracked down by the reconnaissance plane. It was insured with Aviva Élite through Leclerc Assurances Brokers. Two other vehicles of the same value were also in the barn at that moment.
