The year 2008 could happen to be costly for insurers in the province of Quebec. After a quite harsh winter, they had to undergo the storm of June 10. The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) said that insurers will pay $56 million to cover damages caused by this single day. Insurers have had to deal with 6 000 residential claims and 10 000 automobile claims.
As for the winter, IBC believes that the damages caused by the abundant snow will cost $172 million to insurers only in home insurance, compared with $58 million last year. Insurers have had to cover a total of 38 000 claims as the winter ended. The IBC, however, did not specify the costs of the other claims.
