L'Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) said that apprentices representatives in personal-lines damage insurance and commercial-lines damage insurance have until October 31, 2009 to invoke the provision allowing them to submit a high school diploma and a decision made by l'Autorité stating the occupation of a full-time employment for at least three years; or a decision made by l'AMF stating, first, recognition of educational level equivalent to high school and, then, the occupation of a full-time employment for at least three years to enroll in a session of examinations prescribed by the AMF.

To achieve this, the future representative must demonstrate that it meets the minimum training requirements which vary by chosen discipline or category of discipline.

The application for certificate of employment (three years) concerns anyone who must obtain a decision of the Authority for the recognition of a full time job and a decision for an education level equivalent to high school in order to register for examinations of l'Autorité in damage insurance or claims adjustment.

The Regulation respecting the issuance and renewal of representatives' certificates (Regulation No. 1) identifies for each sector or sector class the skills that you must acquire to meet the minimum training requirements.

The minimum training required for the representative's certificate in personal-lines damage insurance and commercial-lines damage insurance is divided as follows:

    1. Post-secondary degree with at least 450 hours of training or
    2. The Work-Study Learning Program (WSLP).

Sylvain Theberge, a spokesman for l'Autorité has also said that "by October 31, l'Autorité will argue the industry's position in regard to the recognition of equivalence.
